Esther Williams Loses Swimsuit

In the summer of 1956, swimmer/actress Esther Williams made headlines around the world when her entire swimsuit fell off during a performance at Wembley pool in London. She was wearing a heavy custom made rhinestone bathing suit for the performance but no allowance was made for stretch in the suit’s straps – so when Esther dived into the pool, the straps snapped and the entire suit slipped off!
Esther ended up diving to the bottom of the pool and putting the suit back on there. She tied it back on with a necklace while other performers tried in vain to divert the audience’s attention.
