Errol Flynn’s Birthday Brawl

Tuesday, July 19th, 2011

In 1942, Errol Flynn’s 32nd birthday party ended with a man being rushed to the hospital with a fractured skull. According to the original article, it was Flynn’s 32nd birthday, but IMDB lists his birth year as 1909 which would have made this his 33rd. It was a star studded event – his guests included Mickey Rooney, Dinah Shore, Charlie Chaplin, and Tyrone Power. Lots of crew members were in attendance as well. Near the end of the night, Errol Flynn’s stand-in and personal secretary got into a serious fistfight with socialite Barbara Hutton’s butler after a night drinking and exchanging insults. The stand-in was arrested after he admitted he beat up the butler. Flynn was not available for comment because his physician had “ordered him to remain quietly in bed.” It is unknown what eventually happened to either the stand-in or injured butler.
