Some reporters get angry because I won’t do interviews while I’m making a picture. They don’t seem to realize that the actor’s job takes some preparation and requires concentration to sustain a performance. There are some actors who might be able to turn it on and off. I’m sure Clark Gable can. I can’t.

In 1950 Montgomery Clift was making headlines for his simple, anti-Hollywood way of life. It was reported that he owned only three suits and when he escorted Elizabeth Taylor to the premiere of The Heiress, he had to rent the tuxedo he was wearing because he didn’t own one himself.
